Santa Càndia, a water adventure

Some places in Catalonia are hidden, forgotten, known to only a few. They’re nothing spectacular, but very pleasant all the same. There are a quite a few of these places in the area around Orpí, a town largely unknown by the general public.

The water of the Carme Stream is very clean, an essential factor for the many paper mills along its banks. As you make your way upriver, heading towards Miralles and Valls, the landscape becomes wilder with each kilometre as the woodland gains ground. There are plenty of places where you can go for a dip in the summer, or to admire the colours in autumn.

How to get to Santa Càndia

First of all, we take the asphalt path that begins at km 9.50 of the BV-2131 road, right next to an information panel on Santa Càndia. The BV-2131 links La Pobla de Claramunt (between Igualada and Capellades, on the C-244a road) to Santa Maria de Miralles (on the C-37 road, between Valls and Igualada). When we reach Santa Càndia, about half a kilometre from the BV-2131, we drive past the church on the left along a narrow lane and arrive at an esplanade with two fountains ( one with water, the other dry), which is the parking area.
