Hostalets de Pierola, a window onto the Miocene epoch
The most important Miocene epoch palaeontological sites in Europe are located in Hostalets de Pierola. The remains unearthed of Miocene primates such as Pierolapithecus catalaunicus, Anoiapithecus brevirostris, Driopithecus fontani and Pliopithecus canmatensis are the most important finds of their kind in recent centuries. Other exceptional finds include the most ancient remains of a giant panda discovered to date, along with those of many other unique mammal species.
The Palaeontology Restoration and Interpretation Centre (CRIP) organises educational activities for families and schools. It includes an exhibition area and various trails around the area that can be accessed via the p@leo_rutes® app for mobile devices, available in the App Store (Apple) and Play Store (Android).
Come to Hostalets and experience what it’s like to be a paleontologist!
