La Tossa, balcony of the Òdena Basin
Just a couple of minutes’ walk from the car park at the summit of La Tossa (627 m), we come to the vantage point known as Salt de la Donzella (Maiden’s Leap), which affords a wonderful panoramic view of the Òdena Basin and its towns: Òdena, Vilanova del Camí, Santa Margarida de Montbui and the capital, Igualada. This vantage point is the highest point of the Miralles Mountain Range.
La Tossa is set in a deeply satisfying landscape worthy of quiet contemplation. Cereal fields and almond and olive groves can be observed at the foot of the mountain, giving the landscape a rich variety of colours with the passing of the seasons. On a clear day, the Cadí, Port del Compte and Pedraforca pre-Pyrenean mountain ranges can be made out on the horizon, while the much closer Montserrat Mountain presides over the landscape.
In addition to the fabulous view it affords of the Òdena Basin, from the Tossa de Montbui vantage point we can observe the significant presence of marly gullies. It is a highly distinctive and surprising landscape, unlike what we are used to seeing in other areas.
A legend is told about this vantage point. It is said that there was a Moorish king in La Tossa who fell in love with a Christian maiden, who leapt to her death from the vantage point in order to escape his clutches (which is why the vantage point is known as the Maiden’s Leap).
