Plaça Major, Copons
The Plaça Major in Copons is surrounded by stone arches of varying heights from different periods.
The arcaded square of Copons dates from the 17th century, the period of greatest urban development of the town.
It was a century of prosperity for Copons thanks to the investment of the income obtained by the towns traders and businessmen, mostly muleteers who with their horse-drawn carriages transported goods from the paper factories, textile factories and tanneries of Igualada and other local places to Castile and other destinations (such as the ports of A Coruña and Tarragona, ready to be exported to the American colonies).
The square is included in the Inventory of Architectural Heritage of Catalonia.
